Johannesburg, South Africa – 13 November 2025: Iconic fashion collective Boys of Soweto has officially opened its first-ever flagship store in the heart of Braamfontein, a space that redefines what local retail can look and feel like by merging culture, creativity, and contemporary luxury.
Founded by celebrated fashion creative Vusumuzi “Bob the Stylist” Ndima, Boys of Soweto has long been a symbol of township sophistication and modern African elegance. The new flagship marks a significant milestone for the brand and for South African fashion at large, turning Braamfontein into a destination for design, style, and cultural expression.
More than a retail space, the flagship is an immersive experience that captures the Boys of Soweto ethos, rooted in craftsmanship, identity, and aspiration. Designed by K2 Space Design, the store blends refined minimalism with bold visual storytelling, creating a space that feels both premium and authentically local.
“Our goal was to create a space that feels like a reflection of the Boys of Soweto story, raw yet refined, familiar yet aspirational,” says Ivan Kirstein, Founder and Creative Director at K2 Space Design. “We wanted every design element to express the spirit of innovation and cultural pride that the brand represents.”
Adding an artistic dimension to the space, acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Fhatuwani Mukheli created a mural that anchors the store’s visual identity.“The mural is my way of honouring where we come from while celebrating where we’re going,” says Mukheli. “It’s a symbol of pride and progress, much like Boys of Soweto itself.”
For Ndima, the flagship represents the culmination of a vision born on the streets of Soweto and refined through years of creative evolution.“This space represents a dream that started on the pavements of Soweto,” says Ndima. “We wanted to build more than a store. We wanted to build an experience that celebrates African excellence in fashion and design.”
Since its inception, Boys of Soweto has grown from a collective of style disruptors to one of South Africa’s most recognisable fashion movements, known for its bold tailoring, clean silhouettes, and elevated streetwear aesthetic. The Braamfontein store houses the brand’s latest collection, limited-edition pieces, and exclusive drops, giving fans a chance to engage with the brand’s creative world up close.
“Opening this flagship is a reminder that local dreams are valid,” adds Ndima. “It’s proof that South African design and creativity belong on the global stage.”
The launch event drew fashion insiders, media, and cultural tastemakers, celebrating not only a new retail destination but also a bold new era for South African style.
