Thohoyandou, South Africa: A new chapter in digital learning has begun at

Thohoyandou Secondary School, where learners now have access to a Digital Mobile

Library, made possible by Vuma.

The Digital Mobile Library was officially handed over on Friday, marking a significant step in

bridging the digital divide. As the official sponsor and connectivity partner, Vuma in

partnership with ISP is providing the school with free 1Gbps fibre connectivity through its

Fibre to Schools initiative, ensuring reliable access to digital learning platforms and online

resources. The mobile library, procured by Vuma, is fully equipped with tablets, laptops,

secure storage, charging infrastructure, and connectivity enablement—giving learners and

educators access to a complete, modern digital learning environment.

Rura Tech is Vuma’s implementation partner for the Digital Library project and is responsible

for the end-to-end setup and delivery of each digital library, including conducting site

assessments, procuring and installing equipment, configuring the technology, and ensuring

the mobile library is fully operational before handover.

For learners, this provides access to a wide range of online educational resources, creating

a space where they can explore, read and learn beyond the traditional classroom setting.

For some, this marks their first meaningful access to consistent digital tools for education.

For educators at Thohoyandou Secondary School, the Digital Mobile Library introduces new

ways of teaching and engaging learners, helping to build both literacy and digital confidence

while enhancing classroom learning.

As the first learners begin using the space, the hope is simple: that this Digital Mobile Library

confidence, and future opportunity.
